Finally an amusing incident

Well I had a what u would call an introspective entry into bangalore. And yes, my poor arse did protest for a few days and vowed never to accompany on another bus trip unless it was in a Volvo A/C bus.

Had this post been put up earlier u would all have heard me lamenting about nothing interesting happening to me as yet. Well today I was finally able to understand why the chinese call it a curse to live in interesting times.

The bus had dropped us at the IISc campus at 9 in the morning and me being the net savvy fellow that I am rushed to the SERC (dont know the full form....nust be something dumb...IISc is full of dumb support staff) to check my mail. Now this place is actually one in a million. It boasts of parallel super-somputing center but basic computer facilities suck here. And what is their excuse for this......we are an academic institute u dont need all these distractions.
Anyways gettting back to the description....the net service here is slower than what is provided in jhumritalayya or in timbuktu...and u got to go terminal hopping to find out which computer will connect to the net. In this process I happened to leave my mobile in one such cubicle. Some good samaritan happened to find it and instead of asking around in the lab he proceeds to call any one on my mobile in the hope of finding the owner. Finally after diminishing the bill by 20 rupees he gets to my sis who is in mumbai at the moment. All this happens while I was mailing some mails and chatting with a friend on mine who I'd met after quite some time(10 days). The samaritan then proceeded to the classroom where my lectures were being conducted in the hope of returning me my lost mobile. He only ended up in announcing to the whole class that yours truly had bunked the lecture.

Well after handing the handset to my room mate our second hero left the stage. Unluckily it didnt end for me there. My sis decided to call me up on my mobile at that instant to tell me my mobile had been found....smart gal...wonder who she gets her genes from....and our hero who returned it had switched on the tone. As u can guess a loud cacophony burst out in the middle of class interrupting the prof who was in between sprints across the dias( yes he does sprint across the dias). And my two friends who had taken the task of safe-keeping my mobile for me turned out to be real techno savvy. They didnt know how to turn off the mobile. Finally after goin thru quiet a few hands it was shut off.

All during this time I was blissfully unaware what my mobile was putting the class through. It became interesting for me later. I left the lab intending to get the second lecture and while walking back(it takes 15 mins from SERC to the physics dept.......too far a walk I say) realised that my mobile was missing. Ambling back thinking that I'd find it where I'd left it I got back to the computer room only to find nothing there. This was followed by me running up down mimicking a headless chicken looking for mobile. And the funny thing was that I didnt know my mobile number, or else I could have called and found it. Now now dont laugh. I finally ended up a crudely writing lost item notice and posting it and then sitting outside class waiting for everyone to leave.

And I've spent rest of the day informing the rest of the class that I have found my mobile and its safe with me. Thankfully I have'nt yet met the professor who was taking the class. dont think I could handle him inquiring abt the mobile too.

damn I hate such incidents. They always put u on the map...especially when u want to stay hidden. Anyways I've finally come to an end . Hope u all enjoyed the narration. And if u all got bored well....what can I say...

Anyways I'll stop for now....do keep dropping in leaving ur comments. happy blogging till then

A Bus journey for Posterity

Wow! A journey to remember. But I think that it's my butt that will really remember this journey. Posterior jokes aside this trip will definitely count as one of the more important ones for me cause this journey will be the start of the test that will let me know if I have changed or not and whether my rebirth into physics has taken place or not.

Dont know about u all but I've definitely gone through situations where u know what goal lies ahead of u, what u need to get there, what obstacles u r likely to face, basically what path u have to take to get to your goal i.e. a complete road map for your destination. And do you know what I've done each time.....chucked the map out of the window and proceeded to do exactly the opposite.

I know, I know...you all cant stop chiding me on stupid can one be.....digging one's grave by his own hands. As said in those " immortal words" Swap screwed Swap. But in my defense, all that I'll say that I had to get this rebellious streak out of my system. If I hadnt then the consequences later would have been worse. I had repressed myself for too long. I'd decided that I'd given up enough and it was high time I enjoyed the good life. Yes I know it all sounds quite dumb....could'nt have heard a more ridiculous excuse...but that is how I justify it. I chucked my career out of the window and proceeded to go thru 2 years of total inactivity. I sleep-walked through my Masters.....and was still able to get a decent enough grade. I dont regret those 2 years though. I had just about had it with my repressive nature and wanted to enjoy myself.

I didnt go freak out and do anything majorly rebellious just gave up on my studies. Went through 2 years of not being able to decide whether I wanted to work in physics or maths. Which is why this trip is important to me...cause it signifies that I have chosen to work in physics and my performance at the school that I am goin to attend will finally decide whether I am cut out for it or not.

You all must be wondering abt how can I think all this through on a short trip. Well this was'nt a short trip. It ended up being a 25 hr bus ride that my arse wont forget for quite some time. All that time spent in a seat getting up only to answer nature's call or to have food. And u got to appreciate my luck. I land the last seat on that bus which happens to be in the last row....one seat away from the window. The bus too was one in a million. Anytime the gear shifted from 1st to 2nd the bus announced it rather loudly courtesy of a busted silencer. Not to mention being thrown into the air whenever our enthusiastic driver happened to hit a bump on the road. Trust me trying to sleep through all this was really an experience. All in all though the trip was tolerable and when u have something deep to think over u never realise time passing by.

Sadly I have no amusing anecdotes to or incidents to narrate to my listeners. Just met a few nice people one of who had to suffer through the same fate as me and infact it was worse for him as he had the window seat next to me and not just that....he had to endure conversation with me for the entire trip.

Well that's it for this trip. Onward with the trip through the stat mech school. Gonna meet quite a few intimidating figures of this field. Wish me luck guys and gals. Here's hoping I do well.
